Different Types Of Eczema
The sad thing about eczema is it comes in different types. What’s even sadder is the fact that a person may develop more than one type at a time.
Here are a few of the more common different types of eczema:
Atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis is a non contagious skin disorder. You will know that is what you have because of the inflamed skin and intolerable itching. Some of the common causes of this type of eczema are due to stress and allergy such as asthma and hay fever.
It is more common on children and young adults and you would often see them on the elbow creases, backs of the knees, ankles, writs, face, neck, upper chest, palms and between the fingers.
Contact dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is a rash that is concentrated on one area which is caused by a foreign substance.
The foreign substance that can cause contact dermatitis are the following: poison ivy, cleaning solutions, detergents, cosmetics, perfumes, industrial chemicals and others.
The thing with contact dermatitis is it takes 4 weeks for the rash to clear up.
Dyshidrotic dermatitis
Dyshidrotic dermatitis occurs only palm, sides of the fingers and soles of the feet. The blisters may look like tapioca pudding.
It happens to anybody but it is more frequent to people who are between 20 to 40 years of age. The cause for this type of eczema is still unknown.
Lets look at more different types of eczema.
Hand dermatitis
Hand dermatitis affects the back of the hands and the palms of the hands. It may only start out mild but it may become severe.
If it is left uncured, it may even affect the ends of the fingers and may deform the nails. This type of eczema may spread to the forearms and feet.
Doctors usually prescribe a topical steroid to minimize inflammation. Since it spreads, it is best to see a dermatologist especially if has been persisting for a couple of months already.
Neurodermatitis
Neurodermatitis is also known as lichen simplex chronicus or scratch dermatitis. It has been named as such because of the fact that when the skin itches, we all tend to scratch it.
Sometimes the more we scratch them, the more it tends to be itchier and so the cycle of scratching begins. Some of the common causes of neurodermatitis are insect bites and emotional stress.
This type of eczema usually happens to females, people who have allergic contact dermatitis, atopic condition such as atopic dermatitis, asthma or hay fever, females and people who are in the age range of 30 to 50 years of age.
Just like Dyshidrotic dermatitis the exact cause of neurodermatitis is also unknown. When being tested, expect to be examined visually by you doctor. Also expect to undergo through a skin biopsy and patch testing.
