No Known Treatment For Eczema?
If you have a rash that is itchy and maybe even painful, then what you may have is eczema. There are different kinds of eczema and treatment for eczema may vary depending on the type.
But the most common type is atopic dermatitis. Do not scratch the affected portion because when you have it, scratching it will make it worse.
It will become red and inflamed. Anybody from any age group can have it. So eczema can happen from infants to adults. Although people who have a history of eczema in the family are more likely to have them.
The bad news is there is no known treatment for eczema.
The good news is that it is not contagious and you can manage it by avoiding the very items that can trigger it. Thus, avoid contact with objects that will irritate your skin.
They are the following: household cleansers, detergents, aftershave lotions, soap, gasoline, turpentine and others. These days you need to wash hands as often as you can because of the swine flu virus. So you can manage this by washing your hands and drying it completely after.
Another way to manage eczema especially if the rashes are located on the hands is to wear gloves.
It will be able to protect the skin on your hands especially if your hand is always in direct contact with water or if you need to be contact with chemicals that can harm your skin. Some jobs require that. Thus, choose gloves that are vinyl or plastic.
Before you wear that make sure that you also have cotton gloves before you wear the plastic ones.
The cotton gloves are for the sweat that usually breaks out when we wear plastic gloves. You will be needing to remove your gloves every once in a while as extra protection from sweat.
Choose clothes that are made of cotton. There have been testimonials from people who have eczema who said that they feel better if they wear clothing items made from cotton.
Do avoid wool and other synthetic fibers as it will only make the rashes worse.
Since your skin is sensitive to harsh chemicals, only use soap that is super mild and only use a very small amount whenever you take a bath.
Only take a bath for a maximum of twenty minutes. Any longer than that will dry your skin and dry skin will worsen the situation. Use a mild moisturizer after the bath.
Choose the ones that are greasy than the ones that are creamy. Creamy moisturizers have more chemicals and preservatives in them. Stock up on mild moisturizers during winter because cold weather means dry skin.
It has always been emphasized that you should never scratch the affected area. Aside from breaking the skin and causing a wound, scratching can also cause an infection. To prevent the rash from being itchy, use a mild moisturizer.
These are just a few ways by which you can manage your eczema. Remember there is no known cure or treatment for eczema but you can definitely take care of it and not making it worse.
